The Story of Rolco

In the 1950s, textiles and clothing made of fully synthetic fibers were becoming increasingly popular. Nylon, Perlon® and other new materials were the “hit” fabrics of the day. In response to this trend, synthetic laundry detergents were launched.

Synthetic detergents, however, foamed not only in the machine but also in the discharged wastewater, because there were no sewage treatment plants in Greece at the time and the surfactants in the detergents were poorly biodegradable creating as a result, foam and residues in rivers, lakes and the Sea.

In the early 70’s Rolco was the first detergent company in Greece that introduced fully biodegradable surfactants ahead of its time at a higher cost but beneficial to the environment and as a result accelerated the changes. This social responsibility which is embedded in our philosophy and in our mission and vision decades ago, has positioned us today again a few steps ahead from others in implementing solutions to the problems of our age, such as the growing threat of climate change.

With this in mind, we have developed our new brand planet.

The Environment we work in:

The limited availability of water, energy and other resources has been recognized as a global challenge.

We have taken up this challenge.

Rolco began to consider environmental issues at a time when the environment was not a fashionable word. Through our 60-years-history, we have demonstrated our commitment to protect the environment as well as the health and safety of our customers and our employees.
